What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Move west. Live in a small town. Move to the Yukon.
Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any, because every time I've made them, I've bailed on them.
Did anyone close to you give birth?
fuzzyila, and I feel like someone else! Eeek!
Did anyone close to you die?
Uncle Dominic passed in April. It'd been a while since I'd seen him, but there was a time when he was one of the uncles I was closest to.
What countries did you visit?
No, sir.
What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
To live in the same place from the beginning of the year to the end. To go on a *vacation* at some point.
What date(s) from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
February 4th I moved to FSJ; October 31st/November 1st I moved to Whitehorse.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Take a chance take a chance take a chance.
What was your biggest failure?
I didn't fail this year. I was pretty good at life this year.
Did you suffer any illness or injury?
Nothing serious. A sprain, a cold or two...
What was the best thing you bought?
A bus ticket to Whitehorse. On some level, I might say the travel to FSJ, too, because it brought me to my woman.
Whose behavior merited celebration?
Hiedi and Lisa - they were both pretty great to live with.
Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
I don't know about appalled and depressed - that's pretty strong language. I don't think I've felt that way about anyone in a while. Annoyed and irritated, sure, but not appalled.
Where did most of your money go?
I didn't have a lot of money, but mostly towards moving twice and shelter and food.
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
MOVING TO WHITEHORSE. See, the problem with this survey every year for me is that 90% of the answers are about the same handful of things.
What song will always remind you of 2009?
Dead End Street, by Lou Rawls, but not because of anything about the song particularly.
Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or Sadder? Happier. Lots and lots, but not to say that I wasn't happy this time last year.
Thinner or fatter? I think I'm thinner, if only just a little bit.
Richer or poorer? About the same - pretty poor then as now on account of moving (or prepping for it) both times.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Not a whole lot. I'm pretty happy with my year, even the time I spent in FSJ.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Again like last year: non, je ne regrette rien.
How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent it with just Hiedi, cooking a turkey and opening presents to and from each other and our parents.
Did you fall in love in 2009?
Stayed in love! I don't write about it as much as I used to (or in quite the same way) but you'll have to trust me that it's still there, just as much as before.
How many one-night stands?
Zero.
What was your favorite TV program?
I'm gonna go with Modern Family, although in a way I'm tempted to say Law and Order (all franchises) because Hiedi and I watched so damn much of it.
What was the best book you read?
Er... ah...
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Barbara Randolph? David Ruffin?
What did you want and get?
TO MOVE TO WHITEHORSE OMG. And, a laptop, I guess.
What did you want and not get?
Plenty of material things that I can't really get too worked up over.
What was your favorite film of this year?
Up.
What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had dinner with my awesome girlfriend at Egan's in FSJ when I turned 29.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
A permanent, full-time gig here in Whitehorse. But it'll come.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Far less considered than it was in Montreal.
What kept you sane?
Same as last year and the year before and the year before...: intoxicants and Livejournal. And friends, but most of 'em are on Livejournal, so, intoxicants and Livejournal it is.
Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't have any big, burning celebrity crushes. But I did cover this
over here if you're interested.
What political issue stirred you the most?
It's just the general disgraceful state of Parliament. It is a joke. It is worse than a joke. At least you can laugh at a joke. I just can't stand to look at it anymore.
Who did you miss?
All of my friends in Montreal/Ottawa/Toronto. Tracey, Marina, Christina and Erika most of all.
Who was the best new person you met?
Lisa, who was the best roommate/friend/almost-like-a-mom we could have ever had the good fortune to stumble upon.
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
If you want things, determination will get you them.
Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
It's still all about the love:
No man of wealth
I know I’ll ever be
But I’ll be satisfied
Just knowing you love me
-The Four Tops, I'm in a Different World
