I can feel shade_o_matic nodding her head in agreement. For once. ;)

I get all the different CBC affiliates, so I get both games and this doesn't really affect me. But that the CBC can show Toronto/Ottawa as the national game tonight, and limit Montreal/San Jose to just the Montreal, BC and Alberta affiliates is practically criminal. And of course I say this as an Ottawa fan ( Read more... )

I'm surprised they're kind enough to even bother showing the Habs game at all.

See, this doesn't bother me as much because there's no other team in Canada that has the luxury (as Habs fans do) of having every single game on one channel. In fact - and I could be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure - the Habs and Leafs are the only teams whose fans can count on every single game being televised. There are some Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and (I think) Vancouver games that aren't televised at all locally in those markets.

So for Habs fans to cry that 'boo hoo we can't watch our team in both languages!!!' when other fans sometimes can't see their team in one language has always struck me as a bit whiny.

You mean for the RICH fans to be able to watch their every game? Because let me assure you that I am unable to watch every Habs game even if I wanted to.

Sure, but again, it's not like the Habs fans are any more screwed by that than Sens/Flames/Oilers/Canucks fans.

No, but your elitist statement surprised me. I thought you of all ppl would have a better grasp that it's only the lucky few that can afford that kind of thing.

Dude. Elitist? I know not everyone has basic cable, but the Canadiens obviously made a decision some time ago to sign a contract with a cable network to broadcast all their games. They are the ones who decided to take Saturday night games away from Rad-Can.

Yes, your comment was elitist.

And I never said it wasn't the Habs' own fault that ppl without the means cannot watch all their games.

Elitist how? I said it bothers me to hear Habs fans complain about not having some of their games on in two languages when other teams don't get certain of their games in one. I fail to see the elitism here.

The elitism comes in because you seem to automatically assume these Habs fans can afford to get the games you're referring to. Just because the games EXIST as broadcasts does not mean that most fans have access to them.

Tbh I've actually never heard a Hab fan complain about not being able to get the games in two languages.

Do you pay more than $565 a month for shelter + transportation? (I'm asking because I don't want to assume anything here.) If it's no, then you're totally right and just ignore this next comment. But if it's yes, then it's about priorities. Because, see, when I was living in Montreal, that's what my rent and transit pass cost me. And that's how I could afford to have cable. I put cable TV higher on my priority list than certain other things that I could've paid 40 or 50 bucks a month towards.

Tbh I've actually never heard a Hab fan complain about not being able to get the games in two languages.

I've never heard them make the complaint that way exactly, but I've heard plenty of Hab fans with cable (or sitting in sports bars eating wings and drinking beer while watching the game) complain about how the "Leafs are on CBC tonight and we're not".
