!.
I forgot how much I missed this show. I love watching it, I love loving it, I love hating it. I love predicting the twists and turns, I love predicting the pat dialogue and I love getting angry and sarcastic with the show when I talk to the television (yes, I talk to the television). Here are some pluses and minuses from last night:
+
The writers, it says here, have mapped out the entire season in advance. This bodes well, because my biggest gripe from the past 2, 3 or 4 years (ok, season 5 wasn't awful...) is that by hour 20, the plans that one villain had hatched in hour 5 no longer make sense. Hopefully that doesn't happen this year.
+ Colm Feore! Fucking Pierre Trudeau plays the President's husband! And for that matter...
+ The President is female! I wonder if the writers are consciously trying to warm the public up to a female Prez, having heard from
some quarters about how David Palmer's character (and others like it) helped normalize the idea of a black President. I hope President Allison Taylor doesn't turn out to fail.
+ GAROFALO!!! Did I see a tattoo on her finger? A tattoo on the finger of a woman portraying an FBI agent? How awesome is that? (Also, it reminds me: I have never mentioned her in any of the
fantasy crushy-crush posts I've made, but
she definitely belongs.)
+ RED FORMAN IS A SENATOR.
- 24 exposition. Oh man, is it ever bad. That scene in the Oval Office where the President is watching a summary of a conflict in an African country? Baaaaad, baaaad, bad.
- For that matter, I don't buy into 24's version of the dynamics in the White House. The West Wing is all I can think of when I'm watching those scenes, and 24 just does not measure up.
- 24 preachiness and condescension, like the scene with Jack talking with the FBI dude who's watching him. I felt like I was watching a civics class video. Baaaaaad.
+ Bad-ass Tony Almeida saying: "You just need to do exactly what I tell you to do."
- No Chloe. Yet.
2. My uncle Andy's gonna pick me up from the Grande Prairie airport and drive me to FSJ! Sweet! I was figuring I'd be spending an overnight (22h30 -> 6h00) in a Grande Prairie Timmy's, trying to stay awake enough to watch over my possessions. But no! I got a ride!
3. My hockey team. They are pathetic. Even the
die-
hards (such as myself) are having trouble stomaching this. Bryan Murray, please do something.
4. Really like a quote from
this Katzenjammer post: As the historian Stephen Henry Roberts once said to monotheists: "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do.When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."
5. I am sick, with the coughing and sniffling and such.
6.
