Olympic things.

1. I really, really love Olympic boxing. I can't say that I've ever sat and watched a 12- or 15-round professional bout in its entirety. But Olympic boxing, that's not brutal (headgear), that comes in manageable bursts (four-round fights) and has national pride on the line? I am *all* over that, and I forgot how much I love watching it.

However.

The judging is really just atrocious, and if you had a chance to catch Johnny Joyce of Ireland versus the fella from the Dominican Republic earlier today/yesterday, you know that well. In fact, if you've watched any of Vic Rauter and Russ Anber calling boxing for CBC/TSN, you've heard at length about how atrocious the judging is. I used to love Russ' obvious enthusiasm for boxing - it was contagious. Now though, he still talks just as constantly as ever, but only to trash the judges. Who deserve it, but still. Let's move on, Russ. Annnnyyyyway, if you saw the Irishman versus the Dominican, you saw the Dominican nearly get jobbed. You saw clean headshots on the Irishman, followed by a point coming up for the Irishman a second later. There really oughta be a law.

Also, it's really sad that Boxing Canada only got their shit together to send a single boxer over there, and one who got absolutely thrashed by a Kazakh in the first round.

Still, I really forgot how much I love Olympic boxing, and how easy it is to pick favourites in it, even if there are no Canucks to be found.

2. I kinda felt this when Ian Thorpe was winning everything swimming too, but really, if one person is winning six and seven events at one Olympics - I'm thinking that maybe there are too many swimming events?

3. I just don't care about gymnastics. And CBC: you can't force me to, no matter how much of it you show.

olympics, cbc
