I've been thinking hard on this one for a long time. This is a list that's only going to change with a lot of contemplation/consideration. Not a flaky list that's going to change tomorrow. But, it's still in no particular order:

Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Tears of a Clown
Elvis Costello - (The Angels ( Read more... )

This is a tough one. If I could only hear five songs for the rest of my life, these are the ones I would pick:

James Taylor - Fire and Rain
Bob Dylan - Don't Think Twice, it's Alright
Elton John - Tiny Dancer
Leonard Cohen - Famous Blue Raincoat
Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes

Honourable mention:
OMD - If you Leave
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Joni Mitchell - Big Yellow Taxi

weird, I was just thinking of doing something like this!

I am totally with you on "I am trying to break your heart" totally in my top ten.
"White Shade of Pale" is awesome. And I wouldn't pick Mass Romantic, personally, but any New Pornographers' is fine by me.

MACK THE KNIFE OH FUCK YES.

Oh, and my answers would all be Japanese songs, so I'll restrict it to my five favourite all-time songs--in English only! :P
In no real order:

Edwin - Alive
Radiohead - Creep
Radiohead - Exit Music (For a Film)
Diana Ross - If We Hold On Together*
Bjork - New World

*It's the theme from The Land Before Time. :)

And honorable mentions:

Rent - Light My Candle
Radiohead (covering Carly Simon) - Nobody Does it Better
Bjork - Oh So Quiet
Alanis Morissette - Uninvited
Foo Fighters - One
Janis Joplin - Me & Bobby McGee

No older stuff on your list?

I never got to know too much older stuff other than the Beatles, and I'm not too crazy about them these days. I probably just haven't lived long enough.
