I replied to those of you who commented on my last entry, finally. Thanks, all.
In today's La Presse there are a number of letters about the banishment of Audrey de Montigny from Canadian Idol. Alternately, they say either that this was all a set up by the tetes-carres in Toronto, or that the nationalists are so easily riled and so insecure.
Oh man, it's a fucking talent show! Why are we talking about separatism in the context of Canadian Idol?!? Apparently the English Canadian press is writing that the nationalists here were uniting via phone-in voting to keep Audrey in the contest. Really, do editorialists in Calgary think that the Quebecois have nothing better to do than make sure their little Audrey gets crowned as the idol? The girl couldn't sing. Blame her loss on her, blame it on people in Quebec who didn't support her enough, but don't blame it on the bastards in Toronto.
Anyone seen these Molson ads running everywhere in the country (except Quebec) lately? The ones with guys portraying each day of the week? The ones that seem to be encouraging people to treat each day as though they all deserve Friday and Saturday drinking treatments? It's insane. How do they get away with this?
One ad, for those of you who haven't seen them, shows a guy claiming to be 'Monday' walking through the streets getting spit on, having people throw things at him, and getting the office elevator shut in his face. At the end of the ad (or the end of the day, presumably) the guy gets up to his apartment and joins his buddies in a round of cold beers, toasting TGIM. Well, anyway, I see the ads as encouraging people to drink Molson everyday of the week, and I'm surprised no one else seems to think that they're irresponsible.
Talked with Ian tonight, as he's back in town for school. I'm heading over to his place tomorrow to meet his (now) live-in girlfriend. We're also going to the Stingers' game on Saturday courtesy of the Vice-Rector. He says his new place is nice. Erika and Allison say his new girlfriend is super-nice. I've never seen Ian with a girlfriend around before, so I'm curious to see how differently he acts, if at all.
