(no subject)
Is LJ doing weird stuff for any of the rest of you? Like, I joined about 4 or 5 communities a few weeks back, and not one of them has made me a member yet. I find it hard to believe that I'm that objectionable, and I know that at least one of them has some pretty active mods. Also, one of my friends has been experiencing journal layout difficulties lately. Namely, her journal seems to have been randomly redesigned, and LJ won't let her redesign it again, herself. It's kind of annoying stuff...
Speaking of that friend, aren't rottenfruit's rat icons awesome? I'm not one who's usually taken in by cute stuff, but that little Milly's icon just gets me everytime. So cute. *sniffle*
I'd never really thought about it this way before, but I guess that Quebec, in one sense, is always comparing itself to the Rest Of Canada, just as Canada's always comparing itself to the United States. On Canadian Idol, there's a Quebecois still in the competition, and each week, when she survives the vote, there's something on the front page, or the front arts page of La Presse about how Audrey is still in it. It reminds me of how the ROC makes a big deal out of it when some Canadian gets the slightest bit of attention in the U.S.
And there are two things there - first it's strange that Quebec's like that with the ROC because, after all, they're supposed to hate Ontario and the West, right? I'd never really seen Quebec as an insecure place before (with the exception of Montreal, when it comes to comparisons with Toronto), but there it is, begging for its little singer-girl to win the Anglo popularity contest. Second, it's strange for someone... anyone to be begging to be recognized by English Canada, just because that's where I grew up, and I never thought of it as that sort of place. Like, it's Winnipeg and Saint John and Sudbury. Doesn't Quebec realize that?
So, the CDs shouldn't take long tomorrow to finish up. There's one page left of place cards to print. We have to pack. We need to remember passports, CDs, place cards, tags, the stereo and probably other stuff too. I'll write in that stuff when I think of it.
