Oops, I seem to have lost on the "book cheap holiday travel tickets" plot. Any advice on the relative merits of Song (Delta) vs. JetBlue vs. Southwest? Any other options worth considering for BOSish to SFOish? (It seems like I can get around $400 cooked on any of the preceding options now for the dates I want to travel; AA is $550+, which isn't ( Read more... )

JetBlue is much better than Southwest, I've never flown Song. United flies non-stops BOS to SFO. And American just announced a holiday fare sale which includes BOS to SFO.

...conveniently not 22 or 23 Dec, though. I wonder if a flight the morning of the 24th would make me happy or not. But thanks for pointing that out...

I also like JetBlue much better than Southwest. SW doesn't do nonstops for this route, I think. Song is fine, and the way they try too hard to be trendy is quite entertaining. If the fares are about the same, it probably just comes down to whether SFO or OAK is more convenient (probably the former?). Oh, yeah, and I've gotten cheap cross-country flights on United before too.

Southwest doesn't fly into Boston at all, but I think on just the right days I can get myself to PVD and there's at least one direct PVD-OAK flight. SFO is marginally more convenient than SJC is marginally more convenient than OAK, but in between BART, CalTrain, and Mom's Taxi it's all Standard Bay Area Driving Distance away from each other anyways. But if I'm stuck around the $400 price point, it sounds like I should go with JetBlue from Boston.

Didn't Song just go out of business or get reuptaken into Delta or something like that?

I liked Southwest the one time I flew it (no-nonsense, funky), but that was years ago and I can't compare it to the others.

I don't know if it's happened yet, but it was announced that Delta was going to absorb Song. And with the saber rattling going on between Delta and its pilots right now, it may not be a safe bet to attempt to fly Song.

Maybe I should qualify that last statement. I expect it depends on when Song gets absorbed into Delta, since I expect the Song pilots' employment is unrelated to the Delta pilots.

(...kind of like when I went to Seattle, and went to rent a car, and the car person wanted to know what airline I was on, and informed me that I should be glad I wasn't on Northwest because they kind of had this little mechanic's strike.)
