he left. i think he wanted to "go a certain direction" which wasn't the same as the firm's.

(i read the sub-text as he wasn't getting paid what he wanted)

I guess that it's a matter of perspective, in terms of whether you're keen to take on the challenge or not. Chin up, and see where it takes you. If you like the ride, just keep on it. ;)

i don't see it so much as a challenge as much as it is throwing the lamb to the slaughter. career progression is good and all, but you need to prepare your "progressee" properly. i'm not sure it's happening like that so much as it is putting in someone to plug a hole.
