And I would never have expected to be excited about this beef, but I am "oooh oooh, when the next diss track gonna come out!?!?!" excited! i wish i was impressed. i'm not. speaking of which, i was totally #teamnas but i don't get why people thought "ether" was so hard, either.

back to the matter at hand, kim is right that drake don't need to be tryna be on no hood shit, nikki prolly doesn't either. but she gets a "whatever nigga" for talkin bout nikki fuckin her way to the top as if she didn't.

secondly, i wholeheartedly agree with the comments i've read from nikki here:

also, nikki minaj--thus far--seems grounded enough to at least say that her barbie getup is an act...lil kim seems to have invested lots of money (and dignity) trying to actually BE a barbie.

with all that said, you'd think i was a nikki fan. i'm totally not. i like absolutely nothing i've heard from her other than her verse on "monster" which i think someone else wrote.

I disagree. Nothing I get from Nicki seems like it's even approaching grounded nor self-aware. I don't think she thinks she's a Barbie, per se. But nothing in how she presents herself seems like she's full self-aware either. But maybe I'm missing something.

I honestly don't think Kim and Nicki are too different when it comes to that. But one thing I do say is a have some level of sympathy for her. 'Cause it's abundantly clear that all of her surgery and persona change are due to hardcore self-esteem issues (largely stemming from Big choosing Faith over her). Not that that excuses what her image means and the impact it has on the industry, young girls and women as a whole. Still I kinda get it.

Ok I read the comments. And I do agree (to some extent) about the Madonna/Gaga Kim/Nicki comparison. I definitely think there's an under current of "there can only be one" going on that is problematic (to say the least). But I also think there's other things in play here (and I meant to add this to the entry may edit it later).

1. In HipHop there's always been beef/diss/I'm-better-than-you themes. And frankly that stuff is just healthy competition that (when done right) can only enhance the genre.

2. I dunno if I think this is a Black community thing. I've seen Patti, Chaka, Tina and others give praise to the singers that have come behind them. Which I think adds to my previous point of it being a HipHop thing.

All that said and I do still agree that the beef between Cannibus and LL (and really just insert any two rappers here) is different than this beef. Because there really is only one "hot" chick out right now. And there isn't that whole "one at a time" thing going on for guys in HipHop. I still think there's other things to consider re: "biting" and healthy beef.

For all we know Nicki and Kim are friends and are orchestrating this madness. 'Cause (as Nicki noted) it is putting them both in the limelight at the moment. And the comparisons were inevitable anyway.
