So I think I mentioned before that we have daily groups at GEMS. One of which is Health Education where a social worker comes from Mt. Sinai hospital and talks to the girls about STDs, safe sex and blahblahblah. So Jess (the SW) had brought in dental dams for one of the members and the others kept asking about them so she incorporated it into the group. I popped in the group when Jess started asking about crazy erroneous information people had rec'd about sex*. Then she pulled out one of the dams to describe what it was and how to use it. It was a flavored one (grape) and after she did her little demo one of the girls took the dam and was playing with it. She put it in her mouth and started sucking it until it popped, creating holes all over the thing. At first I thought it popped by accident. But when she did it repeatedly the sound got slightly distracting. So I'm just looking at her while she's sucking all over this thing. Finally I said "...are you purposefully make holes in the dam?" She says "Oh! I'm sorry! Did you wanna use it?!," as she hands it towards me.
I cracked the fuck up. I'm like "No, sweetie. I don't think I can use it." LOL! Then Jess was all "Yeah, and don't share your dams either!"
*So that aside the group got me thinking about the downright absurd things that I heard about sex, birth control and protection as a kid. I remember a girl in my class in junior high kept talking about how if she got pregnant she would drink a bottle of vinegar and/or throw herself down a flight of stairs. I knew of a few folks who thought standing upside down after sex would prevent you from getting pregnant. One of the girls in the group that day said she'd heard people worry about getting pregnant from giving oral sex.
What are some ridiculous things you've heard about or perhaps believed yourself about sex?
