All I'm sayin is have Adele Givens and Sheryl Underwood ever been seen in the same room at the same time?

*dead*

and we might have to fight over bre. or at least just take it to court and arrange some sort of shared custody deal. she is too cute with that little gravelly voice of hers. i don't think tyra would let another black girl win but she'll definitely be in the top 3 or 4.

Hey, I have home field advantage. She's from Harlem. lol I'm pullin for her either way. She's the hardest working of them all. I do like Nik too though. Were you shocked when they sent Lisa home? Though I hated her arrogance, I had to agree with her. I thought she was gonna at least make it to the top 3, if not win the whole thing.

lisa was a shock. she had the strongest portfolio so far and had that yoanna-esque ambition and drive. she obviously has put lots of time into studying the fashion industry and preparing to be a model. too bad she's nutso and so damn old!

Man, I hate Bre. She is so immature. Kim and Lisa were my favorites. I was shocked to see them both go, especially before Jayla. I've always though Nic was beautiful, though and she's been taking great pictures, so I'm rooting for her now.

BTW if you'd REALLY like to have a civil discussion on the word and why it is offensive, I'd be willing to try.

Ok, the word stems from a history rich in racism. While it is used in hiphop in a different variation, that doesn't change the history of it. I don't condone rappers using it. But at the same time rappers' use of it doesn't excuse others or give everyone a free pass to use it. They say it and get away with it because their words sell. But capitalism doesn't erase racism. And while I do realize language evolves, there's still so much better to be done than fighting over use of a word that for hundreds of years was used to degrade an entire people. If there's anything worth fighting over in regards to language evolution, this shouldn't be it.

So now I'd like to know your side. Is it something you like to say? What's been your experience with it?

Sorry it's taken me awhile. It's the end of the semester and the amount of work I have to do in such a short amount of time is ridiculous ( ... )

"It seems more like self-hate expressed than empowerment to me, but I don't know, I use bitch and cunt all the time."

I completely agree. It's really not reclamation. It's adjustment and rationalization. We've already been conditioned to call ourselves these things. It's convenient to then say "well now I'm reclaiming it." I'm still working on removing "bitch" from my vocab. I know it's not an overnight thing. I do slip up and it comes out, but I don't want to pretend I'm doing something righteous by calling another female a bitch. Of all the words I can use to exalt my fellow women bitch is not it.

"I think what makes it so hard for non-blacks to determine whether or not using the word is okay is the different message that's being sent. Some african americans say it's okay, some say it isn't. Some hip hop stars call people of all ethnicites their "nigga". Or if you're like me and have grown up in a community where it's okay"This, I also kinda understand. Your neighborhood... I can't even conceive of it. I grew up in an all black ( ... )
