So what's your definition of family? Ya gotta have a definition (that expresses it beyond blood and genetics) simply 'cause adoption exists. And it needs to go beyond being raised with someone. 'Cause you can be raised with someone and not consider them family. I think at this moment I just realized why Shavon (my oldest and one of my dearest ( Read more... )

It's funny you should mention Shavon cause I was just thinking earlier about your bracelet & necklace & how I suck @ keeping secrets....anyway, I have a habit of claiming folks all the time, Ylayn is the one person I know who doesn't even introduce me as her friend. EVER! I am her cousin forever.

I just claim people depending on how much I care about you & how I see you. There's always a level of appreciation I have for folks.

" cause I was just thinking earlier about your bracelet & necklace"

I think the first time I thought of her in connection w/ the jewelry was when I put on the necklace. And lately Eunique has been callin me "Vonnie." WTF? lol Talkin 'bout "ain't that your name?" Nah, not exactly, Slick.

" how I suck @ keeping secrets."

lol No doubt =p

TCQ was one of the groups that set the standard (in my opinion), so their reemergence (butchered that one) should definitely be a positive catalyst. I can't wait!

To me, love + loyalty = Family.

But then I guess I could break that down even more and say

loyalty = love/trust

ahh, so many layers!

YES. I'm just scared to say that they're gonna change things up. I'm almost scared of jinxing it, but man I'm still hyped!

"To me, love + loyalty = Family."

Hmmm. I like that equation. Add unconditional in there and I think it's even better.

I actually do define family as who I was raised with. And also, who becomes part of that group of people I was raised with. It's actually that simple. I can't see myself calling someone a brother, sister, cousin or anything close if they haven't been to family functions. it wouldn't feel natural to me.

I've been so excited about this! 'Cause I've been losing my faith in rap/hip hop (Tara, I know you have been too). AND R&B for that matter. The only problem I have with that statement is that there is actually a descent amount of good stuff out there, and most of the people who complain about hip hop are the ones who go by the radio and Mtv, and never go buy any unknown/relatively unknown artist. Just the pop artists. If the fans refuse to do any mining or serching for the diamonds in the rough, then why do they complain. Consumer laziness is the consumers fault. The fans determine what's put out there everytime they vote with their dollar by buying something or by NOT buying something ( ... )

"most of the people who complain about hip hop are the ones who go by the radio and Mtv"

lol I'm sure that was a general statement and not a personal one about me ('cause you don't know my taste), but still nah. That ain't me. lol

"If the fans refuse to do any mining or serching for the diamonds in the rough, then why do they complain."

My complaint is in the fact that I even have to mine for them. It shouldn't even be that hard to find a quality artist. Especially when crap is being mass produced.

"And I've long since lost faith in the R&B "Industry", like a decade ago."

I could take the line you said above to me about hip hop and say it to you about R&B though. There's some good ones out there. And you don't even have to search as hard for them as you do for decent rap artists.

Yes, my whole post is general cause I don't know enough about you to make any claims about you, except that you're intersting.

The big difference is Hip Hop has a large underground scene, and independent music scene. R & B doesn't. There's some good stuff out there, but it's very little. And even the good stuff is still mostly conceputally/subject wise unbalanced and and narrow. Mostly just lovey dovy stuff and don't sing about anything else. With Hip Hop every subject matter under the sun is addressed.

Yeah, good point. So who are you listening to? I like little brother, strange fruit project and juice to name a few. I still need to listen to immortal technique 'cause i'm hearin a lot of good about him.

" except that you're intersting."

Thank you.
