Don't you love when someone tries so hard to say something impressive and it has the exact opposite outcome?

There's a lady at my job Lilliam (yes, LilliaM). Seemingly cool older, Hispanic lady. (I hate how I've been pointing out ethnicities of folks I speak about lately. That's usually unimportant, but for these stories it's relevant.) Lilliam, Shawn and myself were at work this past Monday and she starts talking about her daughter. No first she prefaces her little unnecessary ass story with "My brother who passed away is like you two *rubs the back of her hand*" Uuuhhh ok... and? I'm thinking why is she telling us her brother was darkskinned as if that's some wild new phenomenon for Hispanic people. She's light, but she's not even THAT light that it would be hard to believe she had a dark brother.

So she goes on to say a lot of the people in her family have dated/married people like me and Shawn. Mind you, that's how she kept referring to darkskinned people. "Like you two *rubs back of hand*" WTF? Why is she making gestures like a fuckin mute? Say dark. Shit say blackie! That's better than rubbing your hand and smiling, looking like a moron.

So she goes on to her daughter and says she has a crush on a boy in her class and that she went to school and had her daughter point the crush out to her. Obviously the boy was dark. I'm sorry, he was "like me *rubs the back of my hand*" =/ The whole time she's smiling at Shawn and I almost waiting for our "approval." I assume we were supposed to join hands and sing "We Shall Overcome" because her daughter likes a black boy/darkskinned Hispanic guy. She was all "I love that. I think that's beautiful." WTF? Technically your daughter would be considered black too (depending on their heritage, but she looks like she has some sort of African ancestry. maybe primarily Native American though). WHY in the FUCK would it be considered such a great accomplishment for her to like a black boy or a darkskinned Hispanic?

And now I'm noticing that she goes out of her way to express that she thinks Mario (Haitian ESR) is attractive. Do you want a fuckin biscuit?? Should I call up Al Sharpton or the NAACP because you saw past that thick color line between blacks and hispanics? Do NOT get it twisted. Y'all are "niggers" too. And I am unimpressed.

colorism, cruz roja
