That is to say, I have an idea that sits on its own but really isn't long enough to be considered fic. I think the technical term might be a "flopsy" but I never was one for technical terms, really.
So I got braces today and it aches a lot. On a related note, apparently pain is really, really good for the muses. Who knew?
He doesn't think much these days. He can't really know when everything started, nor does he know when it'll end, but that's okay. All that matters is the here and the now. The night is cool and the pavement is hard on his sore feet. He's been walking for a very long time. Ever since the lightning came, he's been remembering things. Flashes of warm eyes and soft fur and a scent that means home. He searches for it, long legs eating the miles as he lopes down along the roads.

Oh, also, there's other stuff too. Because X-force ATE MY BRAIN AUGH.
Sam wasn't really sure how he'd gotten into this situation, only it was rather uncomfortable. At the beginning of the movie, Tabitha had been sitting on one side of the couch and he had been on the other side. Which was fine because that's how normal people watched movies together when they were good buds and all, right?
Only, somewhere between the swell of the opening chorus and the inevitable introduction of the sexy costar, Tabitha'd managed to fidget and shuffle into a comfortable sprawl that took up the entire rest of the couch, leaving Sam with an increasingly small amount of space to sit. At the moment, he was cringing against the arm of the couch and the crown of Tabitha's head was still brushing against his thigh. She'd seemed to have settled down, though, so maybe he'd be able to watch the movie in relative peace from here?
It was during the scene in the darkness of a cave where the hero and his girlfriend were cuddled up in a cave in the middle of a freak blizzard that movement from beside him caught his eyes. He froze and looked down out of the corner of his eye as Tabitha languidly stretched and pulled her arms up above her head with a happy little purr. He managed to stay still for all of two seconds before desperately trying to scramble up the side of the arm rest in order to get his lap out of the way of Tabitha's hands.
"Mercy! Uh, Tabitha, Ah know you're comfortable an' all, but d'ya think you'd mind movin' back just a tad-"
Tabitha blinked, then smirked, staring up at him with a little smirk on her face.
"So much for subtlety. You're seriously oblivious, Mason-Dixon. Lucky clueless is a good look on you."
"Ah'm sorry?"
Sam wrinkled his brow, confused, as Tabitha giggled and rolled over, sitting up on her knees on the couch.
"Guess I'm gonna hafta spell it out in big block letters, huh?"
Before he could ask what she was talking about, Tabitha had already leaned forward and pressed her lips to his. Sam gasped and instinctively pulled back. Unluckily for him, since he was already backed up against the armrest of the chair, this meant that he managed to flip himself over the edge of the couch in a never before seen accidental act of acrobatics.
Tabitha reared back in confusion, then huffed, crossing her arms over her chest and getting up.
"Well geez, you coulda just said 'No thanks', ya bum!"
With a toss of her head, she started towards the door.
"No, wait! Just- Gimmee a sec here, would ya? Please?"
He scrambled to his feet, running a hand through his hair and blushing furiously.
"Ah just- you surprised me. Guys like me don't really go 'round expecting attention from pretty gals like you, is all."
Haltingly, he walked forward and grabbed one of her hands in both of his.
"Forgive me?"
After a moment of stubborn annoyance, Tabitha turned her head up to meet Sam's gaze and the hard anger in her eyes immediately softened. She sighed.
"Well... only 'cause you asked so nicely, Guthrie." She reached up and smoothed his hair back down from its ruffled state. "You really are hopeless, y'know."
Sam grinned and the two stood there for a moment as the movie flickered behind them. As if in slow motion, the two of them cautiously leaned forward at the same time. Their second kiss was much more successful than the first.
