“Caboose what the fuck is wrong with you?” pleaded Tucker, he needed an explanation that made sense.
“I had O’Malley in me once.”
“I honestly do not know how to respond to that; besides making no sense at freaking all, it is an opening to so many gay jokes, I can’t even pick which one to use!”
Church took over the questioning, which had been ongoing since a little while after their unplanned but highly successful theft of the Puma. Caboose had come bearing down on those Reds out of nowhere, using the machine guns to steer them and main cannon to get them moving back to their own base. It was actually quite an impressive display of marksmanship to guide people with a tank that felt like it could blow up the whole goddamn world. Hell he could even freaking parallel park it beside the Puma.
“So Rookie you claim that you traveled in time?”
“Yes! That’s it exactly. Could you explain it to Tucker? I’m not doing it well.”
Church focused on the little voice inside him that pointed out Caboose had more then likely saved their miserable lives, such as they were. The other voices wanted him to tell the Rookie to shut the hell up and then go get very drunk. And one wanted Waffles, with beer in them.
“So how did you time travel?”
“Well I was watching a shooting star, and I made a Christmas wish.”
“You made a wish?” the listen to the rookie voice was quickly being overpowered by the hit the damn rookie voices.
“Yeah and the star I wished on smashed into the middle of the valley so I took the teleporter to have a look.”
“Caboose the other end of the teleporter IS the middle of the valley”
“I wanted a close look?”
Tucker left at that point, deciding to go to his ‘thinking’ spot… or maybe he’d christen their new car. Maybe drive it up onto the cliffs, pop some suit seals, lean back in reclining seat and ‘think’.
“If you’re from the future prove it.”
Church watched his rookie, his at attention posture fading as he tried to think. It took a long while, but eventually Caboose snapped back to attention with a little jump and a snap of his fingers, or more accurately a scraping noise from the combat armor.
“Open you helmet! I know how to prove it!”
Church popped the seal on his visor, before sliding it gently back into the recessed housing in the top of his helmet, that golden glass needed a clean anyway he mused, because things looked very different outside of it.
Caboose opened his own visor and it was the first face to face look he’d seen of his Rookie, hell he’d never even seen Tucker before and they’d been here for what felt like forever.
Caboose closed in on Church, their personal space overlapping and ceasing to be all that personal.
“So what did you want to show me?”
Church hadn’t noticed what Caboose was doing with his hands, his focus held by the first face he’d seen in so long, only recognizing his mistake when he head was tilted to the left.
Caboose tilted to the right and pressed their lips together as best he could with the way the helmets pushed against each other.
“What the hell man!?”
“See it’s holly! Blue army issue holly. It only gets sent to bases around Christmas.”
“You did that to show me Holly?”
“Well yeah, that and you’re my best friend. Even better then Tucker! You could borrow the holly if you want.”
“Why would I want that?”
“In case your…. Cockbite wallet-stealing bitch of an Ex-Girlfriend Tex, who is not a guy or a robot comes in her special forces black armor. But if she does come she’ll die so it’s probably good that she doesn’t.”
“Why did Tex come?” he asked, despite himself.
“Because the Tank went crazy and killed you. You yelled at me a lot then. But I changed things this time, and now you’re going to be my bested friend ever!”
“What if Tucker died instead?” in his utterly undefendable defense any sex at this point would probably be worth an attempted murder, or at least a maiming. Hell he could lie and just say Tucker was dead.
“Then a doctor would probably come save him.”
Well there went his chance for at least getting a quick mutual relief fuck from his ex.
“Caboose… want to enjoy the holly with your Best Friend some more?”
Church was happy that at least this time Caboose’s response needed no explanation, his lips firmly pressed against Church’s.
