Sorry for the multiple posts guys, but you really should take a look at this!
Not Green Or Blue is a ficathon for celebrating characters of colour in comics!
Speaking from my own corner, what really caught my eye was the reason behind the name, which comes from
Ian Sattler's comment about "diversity" in the DCU:
A serious topic came up about how characters who are minorities who happened to be legacy characters like Ryan Choi are killed off so their caucasian counterparts can return and how they feel like they are being cheated or sidelined out of their roles. Sattler took a more serious tone. “It’s so hard for me to be on the other side because it’s not our intention. There is a reason behind it all. We don’t see it that way and strive very hard to have a diverse DCU. I mean, we have green, pink, and blue characters."
This argument is really seriously invalid, and makes me very angry. There are so many reasons why that end-statement is wrong that I don't have the ability to state them all. What I will say, though, is that ... well. I like Jaime Reyes, I like Ryan Choi, I like Connor Hawke, I like Lian Harper, I like John Stewart and I like so many other PoCs. I don't see why any of them have to vanish into the ether just because DC is on a Silver Age kick, and because they are I feel like it's our job as fandom to make sure that they're remembered, if not brought back into the spotlight.
So that's my two bits, and I hope that school doesn't break me down, because I really do want to participate in this challenge. I think it'll be super fun
