I'm writing medical school essays (oh it's a long, long story, this one, so you probably don't want to know) but I need some opinions and I figured that you guys would be the best ones to ask.
Question: What is the value of a tiered health-care system?
Dr. Brian Day was once quoted as saying "This is a country in which dogs can get a hip replacement in under a week and in which humans can wait two to three years." in reference to the Canadian healthcare system and whether or not it should go two-tiered (with private and public systems) rather than staying as solely public.
On one hand, it's an interesting point. While many Canadians rely only on our system, there are significant wait times and that is one of the arguments that Americans are making against pushes for public health care.
On the other hand, I would like to point at the response by the Canadian Health Coalition. "Access to veterinary care for animals is basead on ability to pay. Dogs are put down if their owners can’t pay."
