Word Count: ~250
Summary: Post-Clockwork Golem. Diana needs a little comfort
AN: This is fic for a fandom that's not published yet. You might recognize Rowan from the TF!AU that I had going a little while back. He's the same character, but he got a bit of a revitalization. Just ask
finchesenroute about it.
Happy Valentines c:
Rowan pulled Diana into his arms, then settled them both to the couch, holding her steady in his arms. Diana would have complained, but Rowan didn't manhandle her like this that often and it was a bit of a surprise.
"Someone's secretly a strongman, huh?"
"It's the glasses. They cover my secret identity."
"I didn't think Superman was Chinese."
Diana laughed harshly and poked Rowan's face. He wrinkled his nose in response.
"Obviously my disguise is very effective."
"Yeah, I guess."
And suddenly her temporary good humour dispersed like fog in the noonday sun. She tried to speak, but all that came out was a weak, hiccuping sob. Tenderly, Rowan shifted to smooth her bangs out of her face.
"It's going to be okay."
Diana dropped her head to Rowan's shoulder and only realized then that her cheeks were wet. "It is not going to be okay. Nothing is okay." she muttered.
"... it could be worse." And he turned her hand over and threaded his fingers through hers. His hand was warm.
"Oh, that's so much better," Diana's voice was dry and full of sarcasm. In response, Rowan kissed her forehead and his mouth twitched into something that wasn't quite a smile, but was strangely close.
"Well, technically, it is."
Diana huffed and batted at Rowan, but she left her head on his shoulder and her hand in his. They sat like that all the way through the night, even though Rowan could feel his leg starting to go to sleep and Diana's neck cramped up.
Comfortable is a relative term, after all.
