Kenshin wasn't here for the booze. unfortunately he had a much darker reason for showing up. He'd seen what happened to Allen, and he knew what he needed to do here before Al had even mentioned it.
Whatever happened to Allen, it had nothing to do with some supposed medical exam. He'd been tortured and the others need to know. The poor boy could barely keep conscious. Kenshin scanned the area, gold eyes seeking out Maes. Something horrible was going on there and they needed to find out what.
Maes was chatting it up by the bar, gathering information through his usual ways with friendly, unobtrustive conversation. People always felt more relaxed in a calm, safe atmosphered and they were more liable to speak about things with some alcohol in their system than none at all. But he could feel someone watching him. He turned his head sharply, almost zeroing in on Kenshin and frowning when his counterpart was not with him. "Excuse me, for a moment."
He turned away from current company to meet Kenshin, his face just as serious. "What is it?"
One hand rests firmly on the hilt of his sword, the other hanging in a loose fist at his waist. He steps off to the side as Maes approaches. "Something has happened. Something bad."
Maes frowned, nodding slightly and motioning his head over to the entrance. "This way." At this point, he didn't touch Kenshin or speak to him until they were outside with the door closed. His voice was a murmur when he turned to look at the samurai. "Who got hurt? And how bad is it?"
Kenshin speaks softly, sticking close to the wall. "Allen. He looks like he's been tortured. His arm was.." He shakes his head. "They let it get sick, he isn't well. He said it was because he wouldn't show them his.. innocence?"
Unfortunately he doesn't understand what that could possibly mean. It worries him, but he's hoping Maes has more of a clue.
Maes knew about Innocence. He's read it in the files. It was every bit as mystical as alchemy is, and his mouth hardened into a thin line. "Was it his left arm you saw or his right?"
Torturing. They're now up to torturing? This did not bode well for any of them. Not at all.
He cocks his head to the side. "His right." Though, it was hard not to notice his left, he knew now why the boy always had his hand hidden in his pocket. "Have you seen his left?"
Maes shook his head. "No. I've read the descriptions about it. It's why I asked if you knew which arm. I don't think it's common knowledge. So Al's with him then, right?"
"There's... a doctor in our ranks. Simon Tam is his name. I'll keep an eye out for him." Maes paused a moment in thought. "Thank you for this information, Kenshin. Does he need you back right away?"
"Al did mention him. I will be looking for him next." He looks into Maes' eyes. "We need to let everyone else know what is going on, without causing a riot"

"Of course. It wouldn't do anyone any good to run out half cocked and get into more trouble. I'll let them know."
