It was around the time that Laharl started contemplating dinner, and though Flonne was at the bottom of his list to demand it from, he had been wondering vaguely where she'd disappeared to. He smelled her before he saw her, not her usual scent but something strong and unpleasant. She was right to think he would have made fun of her for getting scratched by a cat, but being sick was a little different.

He sat up, frowning and looking her over. It didn't look like something to just brush off either. "What happened to you? You eat something weird?"

Flonne shook her head. "N-no. I don't think so," she responded, moving around the couch, though it was a little more like stumbling, finally settling on her knees on the floor beside the couch.

"A-ah... the floor is cool," she mumbled, noting the floorboards. She was shivering so had thought herself to be cold, but now realizing how nice the floor felt she realized perhaps that wasn't the case.

"I just started feeling really bad a few hours ago."

"Weren't you cold?" he asked. That was what the blanket was for, right? Laharl didn't know much about being sick; it wasn't something he'd had much experience with outside that one illness that...

A trace of worry entered his expression, and he reached out to touch her face, her arms being hidden under the blanket. She felt warm. "Feels like you've got a fever or something. What're you supposed to do for fevers?"

"I was, but... not so much now." The chill had passed and she actually felt a bit hot.

Any other time she would have blushed at having her face touched, but her only thought now was how his fingers felt cool against her flushed skin. "A... fever? Um. I... I don't really know. I've never had one," she admitted. It wasn't a bad thing that she hadn't, of course, but it did leave her rather clueless.

Thus her thoughts turned to, what else? The television. "Cool down, maybe?" she asked, picturing characters in her animes with washcloths on their foreheads.

"I don't remember." He sat just looking at her for a minute, trying to think if that was right, but about all he could think of was lying down. Finally he just shook his head and stood up. "Come on. Sitting on the floor's no good anyhow."

Likewise, she continued to think about it herself, but still no answer was coming to her.

"Alright," Flonne murmured finally, trying to ease herself back up onto her feet, the couch beside her becoming very useful for her cause. It took a moment, but she did finally manage that much.

Laharl waited, not so much patiently as in astonishment at how difficult just standing up seemed to be for her. She'd waited for it to get this bad before saying anything? "How'd you even get sick?" he wondered. "It's not that cold and nobody else around here's caught anything."

"I really don't know, Laharl-san! I was fine earlier. More than fine," she explained, already wishing she hadn't left the floor. She was completely oblivious to his astonishment. "Everything was fine."

"...E-except..." she finally mumbled, worried still of being made fun of.

The idea of lending her a hand here hadn't yet occurred to him, and probably wouldn't unless she actually collapsed. Her mumbling made him raise an eyebrow. She really had done something stupid like eat food lying on the ground, hadn't she? He relaxed a little at the thought; if there was some kind of dumb reason, this probably wasn't such a big deal.

"Except?"

Well. There was probably more silly things she'd let happen than this. "There was a cat... it looked injured. I was trying to look at it closer and it scratched my arm and ran away," she told him, looking vaguely embarrased.

"It... it was just a scratch though. Scratches can't make you sick... can they?" she asked.

Not as stupid as he'd thought, but still well within the norm for Flonne. His expression showed this opinion, but he didn't laugh.

"...maybe if the cat was sick," Laharl considered. He didn't know if you could catch anything from a cat, but it made more sense than getting sick out of the blue. "Lemme see your arm."

He wasn't laughing, that was good, but his expression was enough to certainly know what he thought. "Eh? My arm?" she echoed. It... did still kind of hurt.

"Okay..." Flonne said as she complied, dropping the blanket from her arm. She went to hold it out for him, but stopped halfway, her face scrunching up as pain lanced up and down her arm, unexpectedly. "O-Ow... it really hurts now..."

Laharl made a face as she revealed the wound, and inspected it without touching her. It looked worse than just a scratch should have, but more than that, it was where the smell was coming from. "Looks like poison, but that's weird for a cat." He thought for a moment. "Maybe it's infected. But it's worst in your arm?"

Flonne nodded, looking rather upset. "Yes, I guess so. I-I cleaned it up! I didn't... think it was this bad. It was just a scratch," she said, confused now how it could have gotten so bad in such a short amount of time.

Laharl folded his arms uncomfortably, looking off. "You'll be fine. That Al kid's gotta have some kind of medicine if you really need it."

"A-are you sure?" she asked, wanting to believe him. She felt awful, after all, but if Laharl really thought she'd be okay... He had more experience with being sick than she did, right?
