Allen Walker as a rule has never been a happy person, that fact masked by a bright smile and kind attitude. As time in this place wore on it became harder and harder for those around him to discern the mask from the young man beneath it ( ... )

Some things, Fou couldn't fix. It annoyed the piss out of her, but that was a fact of life. Existence. Whatever. Bak was gone -- had been for months, and so had most of the Exorcists. Off-and-on, at least. Whether any of that had been any fault of hers... well, whatever she thought about any of them, she couldn't blame them for not being there. Not when she should've known the consequences of abandoning them.

Which is part of what made it so difficult to wrap her head around Allen's idea of them being the ones that were abandoned.

Whether that was the reason for Allen's sudden mood was anyone's guess. It was clear the last time Kanda showed up that there wasn't any love lost between the two. But there had been conflict then, at least ( ... )

When he heard the door close, there was a slight twitch and furrow of Kanda's brow, evidence that he did hear them enter, even if he didn't start to rise until after Fou chastised them. A sigh was exhaled and Kanda slowly got to his feet, placing one foot under the other until he rose to his full, slender height. Fou could say what she liked; he was used to her, having spent so much time at the Asian branch lately and during his youth.

"I'm not going to bed until this moyashi explains what his problem is." The exorcist murmured, crossing his arms over his chest. Maybe Kanda was an idiot a lot of the time, but he knew that Allen's behavior was abnormal. There had always been animosity between them, but it wasn't quite like this. Dense as he was, Kanda could sense something extra behind those eyes and it was personal.

"No problem, Kanda. Problems. Plural." His hands slid out of his pockets when Kanda stood, his crippled right hand instinctively curled closer to his body. The boy seemed weary, thinner then he had been when Kanda saw him last. Longer hair and his left eye was almost always bloodshot with the press of a curse he had no way to answer.

Allen had lost his faith in his so called comrades months ago. Lenalee had left and come back with no memory of being in Velas, yet it only got worse between then after that. The situation with Bak had been similar, so he has no reason to think it won't happen yet again. "And I told you, my name is Allen.

Fou shot a Look up at Allen, what little patience she had rapidly waning between the two of them, and she took a step to center herself between the two Exorcists as all sorts of protective instincts kicked in.

"That doesn't answer the question, moron. Damn it, just what the hell is the deal with you two?!" she demanded, looking back and forth between them.

The deal with them? What had Kanda done! Except behave like his usual high and mighty self. “That’s what I want to know!” His voice rose a little as he stares at Allen. If the bean sprout hated him, that was fine. If he never wanted to see him again, so be it, but Kanda would at least know the reason why. Normally he wouldn’t give a damn, but after being exorcists together, he felt he should know that much.

“I don’t know what’s going on. I end up in this ridiculous world, and then you look at me like I’m scum of the earth. Whatever your opinion is, say it. Explain yourself, Walker.” Kanda’s feelings won’t be hurt one way or another. He was used to keeping people at an arm’s distance.

"You're a deserter!" Allen clenched his fists at his sides, he could never have it out with Lenalee so Kanda was getting the brunt of his hurt and frustration. "You were here! Longer then I, but you turned your back on everyone and I'm just waiting for the moment you do it again!"

Allen couldn't help but wonder, if Kanda and the others had actually cared when he tried to rally the exorcists to save Fou from the hospital, would he have been able to escape? Or would they have been captured too?

It took months afterward to finally admit to himself that whether they ment it or not, they'd pretty much left him to be tortured to death.

Fou's attention jerked back to Allen, eyes wide and brow furrowed. Damned kid and his fits -- she'd never get used to them.

It only took a moment for her to recover, a snarl pulling at her lips as her gaze turned downcast, shaking her head. She hated admitting it, but if he wanted to blame someone for pulling a vanishing act, he'd have to blame more than just one person. He could start with nearly everyone that's come from their world, for one, including-- the guardian who should have been there.

"It wasn't like that, Allen!" The use of his first name was deliberate, despite the presence of the other exorcist, and her eyes flickered to Kanda. "You can't just blame him!"

Kanda’s eyes widened at that accusation and he took a step forward. He stopped, with Fou in the way, but if she hadn’t been there, he might’ve thrown a punch. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He growled. “I’ve never been here before.” Well, according to Allen and Fou he has, and Kanda was more inclined to listen to Fou right now than take Allen’s word for it.

“So that’s it. You’re going to hold me responsible for some.. ‘me’ I had no control over?” Kanda shook his head, looking disgusted at Allen’s claims. “Whatever happened before, I’m an exorcist, not a deserter. If you want to turn your back, then you’re the deserter, moyashi.” Hmph. “I don’t need your help anyway.”

"I'm not blaming him. I'm simply answering his question." He spoke tight-lipped to Fou but never took his eyes off the man in front of him. He knew he was being irrational at the moment, but Kanda always had that effect on him. Even though they rarely if ever got along, Allen had never doubted the other's loyalty. It had taken so much for him to finally accept that it happened.

"I've seen it happen before! With Lenalee, and Lavi, and-!" Allen took a deep breath, closing his eyes a moment before letting it out slowly. "One by one you all turned against everything we stand for, against the people in the city who need us. Lenalee left and came back the same as you, but then it happened all over again. Miranda is the only one who didn't let this place kill who she was." There was irony in that, surely.

Fou half-turned, giving Kanda a cold glare. "Don't even think about it," she warned, voice low and dangerous. Exorcist or not, she made a promise that she intended to keep. Even if Allen could use the sense knocked back into him, he came off as so god damned broken she wouldn't be surprised if the impact would shatter him. Again.

Fou wasn't good at wishing for things just out of habit, which made Allen's talent for making her wish she could fix everything all the more annoying. Because as it was, she clearly wasn't enough.

"That's bullshit and you know it. You've been here long enough to know people come back different. You can't damn him like this when he hasn't done anything yet." Her voice remained surprisingly level, drained of its usual loud and rash qualities. Empathy might compel Fou to speak softer, but she wouldn't hold back because of it.

Yet? “I’m not going to do anything or change.” Kanda didn’t care what other ‘hims’ had done in the past. He believed that he wouldn’t desert or betray. What happened in the past, he didn't know, but he could only speak for himself. Maybe Allen won't be able to trust him for awhile until Kanda proves it, but he wasn’t going to work to 'prove' something to Allen either. Kanda had too much pride to try and get on another’s good side.

“Miranda?” And where was she? Kanda grit his teeth. Che. “You may be right about one thing. People change here. You’re not an exception.” This Allen was not the same Allen he knew either.

While they never got along in the strictest sense of the word, Allen had come to trust Kanda. Of all the Exorcists, Kanda was the last one that Allen would have expected to turn his back on the Order for selfish, petty reasons. Between both him and Lenalee, Allen had been worried about having to deal with another Fallen.

"I know that!" He did know, but that bratty child inside him still wanted to tear back his sleeve and show Kanda exactly what happened to him, to scream at him and say This is all your fault! He didn't though, Allen had too much pride for that, and he didn't actually believe it. Not completely. He'll always blame himself more then anything else.

"Lotto was here for a while. She... disappeared, too," Fou murmured for Kanda's sake with a wince. Change happened to the best of them, didn't it. If anyone had a chance of remaining unchanged by this crappy place, it was that brat. But he did. Granted, Fou hardly saw Kanda each time he'd been there before, despite whatever shit came up -- but that should have been proof enough. Was it really any wonder Allen was throwing a fit with a track record like that?

That didn't make any of this crap right, though.

"Allen!"

[ Uhhh. :D;; Try not to die, gaiz. fffff, Fou'll make sure they make it out in one piece.]
