He never thought he'd ever be reluctant to wake up and face the coming day. It had confused him enough to wake up and find that it was still night, and he was pretty sure he had kept a normal sleep schedule up until...

It took some effort for him to not let his thoughts wander off in that direction. A part of him didn't want to believe that this had happened again, that this was all just a dream. It had been easier than he expected for him to fall back asleep, and he slept through the rest of the following day's night and awoke to find sunlight greeting him.

He stepped out of apartment 8 of the Nieflheim units, and if there was any disappointment in finding that he hadn't been dreaming at all, it was clearly absent from his face as he began to walk along the street. "Might as well go and see where things are..." he told himself, setting off.

...so which is the dream, then? Was everything that happened back then..? He slowly shook his head, absently lifting his hand over his right eye again, an action he'd been doing all too many times since his arrival as though to constantly confirm that he his left eye remained unseeing.

...no, not completely unseeing. He saw... he still was able to see those things that probably shouldn't be seen. It was proof enough that he hadn't dreamed about being in that other world, about meeting Shinonome again, about the precarious balance of powers between humans and demons, about how he had the power to change all that, depending on whose side he chose... And if his stolen eyesight was not enough, then the thin blue cord he wore tied loosely about his neck was physical evidence.

Shinonome. Kuchiha... Do you even know I'm gone...? His smile softened at the edges, and he fingered the frayed ends of the cord before grasping it. ...you're alone again. It's not that different from before though, is it? Even as he thought it, he knew the answer to that as he slowed his steps.
