It was strange, really. How he could almost feel his heart breaking already. Fou still had her hand clamped around his forearm and he let the tiny, crystalline woman lead him back into the apartment building. He was carefully rebuilding that heavily guarded wall that kept him a step apart from everyone else. She'd somehow gotten it to crack and crumble, and by the time he realized she'd gotten in so close it was too late. The emotions were there and he didn't know what to do with them.
He kissed her once, and that fleeting moment had to have been one of the happiest moments he could remember, especially after ending up in this hell of a world. For that one brief moment he thought that she actually felt the same way, but she ran away and all his hope died the moment their story book hit the floor. This never happened. Three words he'll never forget for his entire life.
He had tried to forget, tried to walk onward as if nothing happened. He's usually so good at pretending, to the point where the act almost becomes the reality of him. Allen doesn't deal with his problems, he buries them down until he can walk over them. Yet, he blurted his feelings so easily, and there was a crowd around to hear. She hit him again, and he's long since come to the conclusion that there is nothing he could do, or offer her that could ever really make her happy.
As mature as Allen can seem, there is part of him that is still a child, the boy was all of fifteen years out in the world and most of them had been spent in servitude, to the point where he'd almost forgotten how to want something for himself, not that he'd ever get what he wanted. He never did.
What he didn't want was to loose her completely, though he certain he probably already has.
