[Sheldon looks very tired from his work at the asylum but he's still able to put on a front that he's not unhappy with it. Still, the back of his mind wants to blow that place from here to kingdom come which will have to wait some other time.]

Oh yay, looks like some things never change.

[At the sound of a familiar voice, Sheldon turns around and smiles at his friend.]

Hey! It's been...Christ...too long. Yeah, they got me working at the nuthouse now. Find anything?

Fun stuff. *Only, not really. He pats the guy on the shoulder*

I forgot the name too. I didn't really care enough to remember it, to be honest. It's not like we didn't sack the place for shits and giggles and it certainly wasn't much to look at. Too bad there wasn't something else to do besides be vultures.

Well it sounds like they're heading to the same place.

....that mean you didn't find anything worthwhile?

Just papers and some really old scrolls. I can't make out a damn word of it since the language is really old and no one here, I think, would understand the dialect. Dead languages are a serious pain in the ass.

Aw man. So it's not in Russian?

Reply

sands_in_mexico November 22 2010, 01:43:30 UTC
No. It's in some weird language that resembles a cross between Cyrillic, Greek and something else. I get to spend time looking up stuff that I know virtually nothing about.

Really? Huh. That's weird- what's it doing in some old Russian city?

I found it under some old church in the catacombs below way in the back. Since it was sealed, I thought it would be important enough to take back but I'm beginning to have my doubts. Anyway, it's one of those things that if we do figure out what it is, it could at least pose an interesting philosophy of what we can do for ourselves.

Demographically speaking, it seems that the region was originally founded on witchcraft so it would make sense for the church to take the documents and hide them from public view if they felt it was important enough. We'll see if that's true.

Oh, so you were spelunking around some old catacombs too? I guess the one Cybil and I found was being used for shelter by whomever was still around at the time, although I guess it didn't do them much good in the end. Found a few books- one fell apart so there wasn't much to try taking back of that.

Interesting though... Hopefully it'll be worth the effort of trying to translate.

Ouch.

[He visibly winces as his upper lip curls up on one side.]

Sounds like you guys ran across a place where the weather got a hold of those old bindings. Damn. That would have been spectacular to read even if it was an old ledger. Would have come in handy at some point.

I'm actually pretty excited to see what I can get out of it. Don't tell anyone this but I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to old things. I like that stuff.

Oh- that's not to say all of them went and disintegrated at our touch! *Grin* Brought a couple back with us- one's in Russian so I figure Andrew might be able to read it. And then the other one's actually mostly written in English of all things!

Heh, that right? Don't worry, your secret's safe with me! So does that make you an Indiana Jones fan?

Big time. Never liked James Bond even though we're in the same field. A person tends to look at fiction after being in it for a while and go, "Eh, been there, done that. Nice watch."

Actually, I started getting into that sort of thing when I was in Mexico and visited the temples there while I was on a rock climbing adventure. I gotta say, it's very interesting and very unique.

Oh hey, I've been meaning to ask you, have you ever been to a pow-wow?

*He laughs* Bond's more England's thing anyway. He still gets on me for taking his ideas- well anyway!

Oh, sweet! Yeah, those things are pretty cool. ...I wonder if any of those places still exist in this world...

-huh? I...yeah. Wow, it's....been a pretty long time since I've been to one though.
