[As per usual, Roy is making his rounds through the city. As the last place before his shift ends, he goes to check on the Jail, passing by, just quickly scanning the area - when something catches his eye. A book, almost hidden in the shadows of an empty cell. When he retrieves it, he dusts it off, reading the title, "A Collection of Notes ( Read more... )

Maes. Ignoring the fact that it's the middle of the night, do you know where I could find Ed?

Well, let's see. If he's not in Lina's place, then he's at the cafe. And then if he's not there, then he might have been kicked out and is either in Number Ten or in the library. And if he's in the library, you won't be able to get to him until open hours because they lock that place up tighter than a drum!

Why? What you need from him?

Lina. Is that his wife's name? Where does she live?

I found a book on alchemy - with his father's name on the cover.

.. He didn't tell you Lina's name?

His father's name? -=okay, this is getting weird.=-

I didn't know dad was an accomplished writer.

He was reluctant to tell me that he had a wife at all. It took a bit of prying until he told me who "she" was.

I didn't either. I figured if anyone knew anything, it'd be Ed. I'm questioning why I found it in a jail cell, here in Veles.

Well, I do know that from time to time, the Gate spits out objects instead of people. But usually books are kept in the restricted section of the library.

Which means I was right to keep the book to myself. I haven't read it yet, but both he and Alphonse should.

Yeah, that's a good idea. And... -=leans over to whisper.=- Spread the word around that they're slacking in the restricted section, will ya? Who knows how many other books are out there. Maybe one can help get you guys back home.

-=smirks=- THERE MIGHT EVEN BE A SELF HELP BOOK ON HOW TO LAND A WIFE!

I'll do that. I know a few people who'd be interested in these books.

[He smiles fondly, and shakes his head.] I'm not looking for a wife, Maes, and especially not one here.

You can never stop looking, Roy. Never! Stop looking.

If you stop, then you'll get lazy and you'll die a bitter old bachelor.

I can't stop if I never start. Marriage is too much of a confinement for me.

Every good Fuhrer needs a better wife to keep him in line! -=nudge nudge=- Like Lt Hawkeye, eh?

Our relationship is purely for work. That is all. [But his speech is audibly a little terse, even if his face betrays nothing.

But then he smirks a little.] It's her duty to keep me in line, no matter the nature of our relationship.

That's why she'd make the perfect wife for you!

You can't give her consent for her, Maes.
