*Walking along back towards the apartments himself, lifting his head as he sees someone up ahead*

Ah...hello?

-He slowed in a brief pause but continued still at a quieter pace. Shoulder flexed, lifting the blade from his shoulder with a quiet sound and slanting it towards the ground. He looked back behind his left shoulder towards the person that called to him.=

... Yes?

-First instinct would have been to ignore it, but after meeting the butt of an automatic to his face for the simple refusal to give his name, he wasn't going to take any chances.=

*Noting the sword- rather hard not to, but is pretty sure he doesn't recognize the face. And since the guy's also carrying the same-issue clothing that they'd all been given upon arrival, he doesn't think it too off to hazard a guess*

Sorry, don't mean to be a bother. Er, did you just arrive recently?

-He stopped and made a pivotal turn towards the other, though not quite directly facing him, giving a slow nod. The side of his face was a steady red slowly changing to purple.=

-His voice was calm and cool.=

If you say so... I guess it wasn't the best of welcomes with the guards, huh...

-He shook his head. Such violence over little resistance.=

They perceive me a criminal. What exactly happened to this place, if I may ask?

-Though it wasn't entirely a concern, he would at least like to be in the know.=

I...think that's how they treat everyone, really.

From what I've heard, this is possibly the last 'safe' place that people can live...everything beyond Veles is a zombie-ridden wasteland... I think there was a war and an outbreak of some sort of disease that wiped out a lot of the population...

-That was, to say, a tad unsettling. It wasn't a vengeful summon cursed to eternity destroying everything, but... a bacteria?=

-Silent for a moment, allowing the concept to sink in.=

...And the place is quarantined to keep this... infection... from spreading, I would assume.

-He hadn't asked for any sort of explanation from the soldiers, figuring the place to be some sort of internment camp. This... was a tad more shocking.=

*Nods slowly* Yeah... Unfortunately no one really seems to know about how to explain the gate that we arrived through, though...

-He looked back over his shoulder to the place he had essentially come into this world from.=

It must have some sort of purpose. I'm not willing to believe that 'we' just arrived here on accident.

*Shrugs* I wish I knew what a better explanation could be for it. The girl at the temple that I spoke to said that the gate chooses who passes through its doors. The appearances and disappearances happen pretty randomly though...

-That sounded a tad suspicious, but it seemed to coincide with what he just said.=

Hmph. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough... The truth has a tendency to reveal itself one way or another.

...I wonder when that would be... (And if we'd be better off not knowing.)
