* Hannity and Colmes had an audience focus group following last night's debate. The question was asked of Obama supporters, "Name one of Barack Obama's accomplishments."
Most people said "I can't think of one off the top of my head," while one man in his 20s said "He won the senate" and a middle-aged woman said "He's gotten further than any African American has."
Thanks for proving my point, H&C. It's the first useful thing Fox News has done in awhile.
* MSNBC, my news channel of choice, has nearly disenfranchised me as a viewer because I've grown tired of the rampant misogynistic Clinton hatred amongst its male talking heads. This includes Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman in particular, with Dan Abrams and David Gregory not far behind. This is finally beginning to garner some attention, but I cannot believe it's taken this long. Perhaps the network is pissed because of Clinton's lashing out at David Shuster for his "pimp out" comment concerning Chelsea, but you know what? Mainstreaming ugly sexist language like that in a news forum should not be acceptable. When is this country's societal culture going to stand up and say "Enough" to all this sexist nonsense that's prevalent--not just in rap music but also in the news now? Nevermind the culture as a whole... when are women going to say "Enough!"?
I'm hoping this entire primary situation is going to finally allow us to acknowledge that sexism is just as horrible as racism. Because if you look around you at all the political writings, commentaries, debates and arguments, you'd find that somehow we've come to say that Sexism is OK. That's not a society I wish to participate in.
* Happy Birthday, Ralph Nader. Kudos to him for throwing himself into the race. I only hope he's not starting too late to acquire the proper petitioning to get himself on the ballot. Since we've already brought it up on this entry, I actually can attribute some accomplishments to Nader's efforts: the Environmental Protection Agency, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Freedom of Information Act, stricter vehicle safety standards, and these are just "off the top of my head."
Being that he's turned 74 today, Nader's made one comment about his age: "The only true aging is the erosion of one's ideals."
* If you look up "two-party political system" on the internet, the most prominent examples you are handed are the United States and Jamaica. Yeah mon.
