Real and tragic, that last step that so many of us are never able to take with one another.

Well told, and something I can certainly see Albus trying in the wake of Grindelwald, Arianna, and Aberforth.

Kudos!

This story really absorbed me - it rings true on so many levels, not only that it fits canon/IC -wise, but also the whole realization that sometimes one does not get further than to agree to disagree on what a situation means/meant.
I am sure I will keep your imagined scene in my memory.

Thank you so much for your review! I'm glad you found my Albus/Muriel interaction believable. I could see it happen, and it's great to see that you could, too.

Wow. This is just so *true*! And I'm afraid I'm going to be leaving you one of those 'can't shut the eff up' comments, because this is so wonderfully done.

“Today’s Board Meeting - we need to work together, Muriel. And … can I be honest with you?”

“I don’t know. Can you?” Whoa. Comes right to the point and hits home, does Muriel.

“Muriel, I’m sorry. I am. I used you. I shouldn’t have, and if there was anything I could do to change it, I would. But I can’t. I can only say how sorry I am ( ... )

I love your 'Can't shut up' reviews! It's such a treat to get a comment as detailed as this; it quite made may day when I got it, and it made my day again now that I (finally) answer.

Thank you so much. I'm glad the story really worked for you. The dysfunctional part proved unexpectedly difficult, but comments like this make it all worth it.

This prompt was one of mine, and I love what you've done with it. Dumbledore may be the only wizard Voldemort feared, but I can very much believe that Muriel is the only woman who was ever a match for Albus, not just because they are contemporaries (though that helps), but because she can meet him at the same level of perception and daring and "wicked senses of humor"/wit and refusal to suffer fools. I love your Muriel and the way you present her here: over and over again, simply refusing to buy Albus's performances of himself. Totally unimpressionable, indeed.

You've got Albus's character down so well -- the constant calculation, the ego (of course it wouldn't occur to him that he wouldn't be Muriel's only man) and the manipulation, and yet also that dimension that makes him human and even sympathetic: he can feel pain and regret, he can be genuinely sorry, he does seem committed to good.

This part is particulary telling, as is Muriel's ability to cut to the heart of it (too sharp by half, is Muriel): "Well put, Albus, ( ... )

&heart;♥ right back! Without your brilliant beta job, it wouldn't have worked half as well. You've improved it immeasurably, and I'm more than grateful.

I'm glad you liked what I did with your prompt - it was such a wonderful idea to work with; I wanted to write the story as soon as I saw it. Thanks again for all your support and all your efforts to keep me on the twisted and narrow.
