Happy Monday, campers! As promised,
brilligspoons and I have been sorting out a system of REWARDS.
Here's how it works: participation earns you points. Earn enough points, and the mods will send you something (more points = more rewards). Everyone who participates will earn something, even if it's just a few pieces of candy or stickers or a small toy.
No, the smaller rewards are not based on the goody bags kids get at birthday parties. Why would you think that?
Points are earned as follows:
- a comment on any post (saying hi, talking about off-topic things, acknowledging that you're reading the book or reading the discussion -- that is, showing up but not really participating) = 1/2 point
- a comment in reply to someone's discussion post or a previous comment (engaging, participating, keeping the conversation going) = 2 points
- actually posting discussion prompts = 5 points (same for roundup posts)
- bailing on your discussion post but notifying the mods and emailing them some notes to work with = 2 points (same for roundup posts)
- bailing on your discussion post and not helping the mods with notes = 0 points
If you break 25 points, you get a super-special reward (your choice of a small gift-card or something awesome the mods choose just for you), as well as the goody bag.
The points system is retroactive, so all previous discussion posts and comments will be counted. And remember, previous discussion posts remain open, so you can always go back to an older discussion if you think of something you'd like to add. So far we have open discussion posts for
The Time Machine,
We,
The Giver,
Logan's Run, and
Red Star.
If you'd like a quick 5-point bonus, there are still unclaimed books and movies -- all three texts for the next cluster, Apocalyptic Landscapes, are still available, as well as several round-up posts later and another book. Please comment on the revised syllabus,
here, if you'd like to claim a discussion or round-up post.
And just as a reminder, we are currently reading Moscow 2042 -- see the kickoff post here for more information. Our next cluster starts on March 14th, with the film version of The Road.
