knitting
yes, the bug has bit me hard. i have been buying yarn and needles online and can't wait to get started on 'proper' projects. in the meantime, i made/am making these from acrylic yarns bought locally.
the first ever scarf i knitted! it took me about a week, on and off to do. simple garter stitch with fringe. i took a photo just before i gave it to jezzel (officemate) and now everyone wants one!
a scarf for viel using elongated stitches. i'm almost done with the first ball and have 2 more to go. it's a white cotton yarn twisted with blue, purple, green and brown thread.
this is from the first group project at
knit_a_long, i kinda didn't follow the pattern as i only used scrap yarn for this. i now have the correct yarns but not the needles; they're still being shipped from
the woolly workshop. if you fancy making your own set, check out the pattern
here.
dubai
there was a
new moon out yesterday.
we drove out to dubai hoping to get to the global village for some arcade and international retail fun. but surprise, surprise, traffic was horrendous and we got stuck for about an hour on this
long stretch of road for over an hour. we decided then that it wasn't worth it and we could come back some other day so we slipped out of the queue to try and see if we can go round the next interchange. it turns out the police have closed the turn off towards global village and were not letting anyone through. possible reason: parking is overflowing as usual. but why not warn motorists about two miles back and tell them not to bother queueing up? i reckon there were at least 3,000 frustrated, angry, disappointed, mad expatriates yesterday wishing they could hurt someone. and the road from the other side was no better off. there was a tailback with regular vehicles and trailers as far as the eye could see. it was just a total waste of anyone's time.
is this an autobot hiding in plain sight?
we ended up at the souq madinat jumeirah, where parking was also full! did the population of dubai triple overnight??? luckily we knew that there was plenty of parking across the street so we turned around and parked conveniently. we had to cross the road but it wasn't a big deal.
we headed straight to dinner.

viel's birthday plans are well under way. i've just had confirmation of our lunch booking at the
al muntaha at burj al arab. everyone's really looking forward to it. i asked tim what he thinks of the place and he said for the occasion we have in mind it is the perfect place. i'm glad about that.
next on my list is to book the studio for some portraits.
okay, so that was my weekend. how is/was yours?
