My laptop was infected with virus and had to be reformatted by my wonderful elder bro. XP
So I'll be laptop-deprived for the weekend and will have to content myself with using this currently-supposed-to-be-my-not-so-new-but-still-quite-new, user-friendly ::coughnopr0nzcough:: laptop.
Good thing I was able to move most, if not all of my files in the portable 1T HD (though I'm not sure if they were also not infected by the said virus). T_T
The said virus was actually installed by yours truly in the middle of the night when I was looking at some images off-site from where I originally found them. It was the dreaded malicious removal tool that MS Windows Update was supposed to have prevented from getting downloaded by unsuspecting computer/computer users and here I am a victim. STUPID!
I have always made it a point NOT to download ANY files from off-site unless I know what it was for and here I am forgetting that one simple rule. T_T
Lesson learned and I will never forget this. I just hope that my other programs that were moved to the portable HD are not infected. Worse case scenario, I'll just have to find and download/reinstall them again.
Which now made me remember that I have to put here those programs I need to re-install in there once more:
- Anti-virus (AVAST! will have to put here. Avira no longer is able to cope with these malicious viruses, trojans, malwares and worms.)
- Media Player Classic
- RealPlayer
- WinAmp
- VideoLAN
- Roxio Easy CD Creator (for burning CDs)
- MusicMatch Jukebox
- PLDT Watchpad
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Mozilla FireFox
- Yahoo! Messenger
- iTunes
- InterVideo DVD Player
- DivX Player
- Mahjong game
- Plants vs. Zombies
Anything else I might have missed? ^^"
Yup, there are a lot of multimedia players in there but these are all what I use to be able to play some of the videos that I have if one player do not seem to be able to play it.
I know there are a couple of others there that I have missed but these are among the essentials that I can think on top of my head.... at the moment.
I am still seething and angry and disappointed at myself for being so stupid to download something suspicious and very obviously a malware. ARGH! XP
I will go under a rock now and feel sorry for myself until I can reclaim my reformatted laptop which is now in the care of my dear elder bro.
'later!
