Location scouting

So Sunday afternoon I got a text from Derek (that he sent to everyone off set right now), asking for help location scouting. I admit; I hesitated. Location scouting is out of my comfort zone, and it's sort of a pain in the ass. But I like Derek, and was just complaining about how I wouldn't get to work with any more second years, so I replied "Sure, let me know what you need me to do.' I got a call from his gf/producer (I was in church at the time so she left a message) asking me to email real estate agents and sending them a picture of what they'll looking for in an interior.

I thought "sweet, I can do this. Emailing people." So the first day I emailed 8 and got 1 response that said "Sorry, can't help". The next day I sent 5 more and got 1 response with a name and a phone number. I followed the lead, and got a very bitchy woman who informed me that it was an active office building and that there was no way we could film there (at least she was nice about it... oh wait... she wasn't).

The third day I decided the real estate avenue, while an approach i wouldn't have thought of, wasn't working (I think now I approached it wrong, i should have gone about it differently). I thought about brick interior buildings, where one would find them, and came up with old old old buildings. So I called a FL preservation society, who recommended I call a county historical society, who gave me the name and number of a man who owned an old theater. The front of the theater had been renovated into an office space, but the back, I was told, was the old brick interior. I spoke to the owner who was thrilled with the idea of us filming there, but wasn't sure if it would suit our needs.

I called the producer excitedly. After days of pointless emails I had made progress! She wasn't nearly as excited as I was; "Is that all you found?" *shrug* She said she'd call Derek and call me back, and if I wasn't busy maybe I could go out there with him to look at it. She called back, Derek was busy, could I go out there and take pictures for them. Sure, what's a drive to Monticello (FL) and back in the name of film making? (it's about 45 minutes from Tallahassee). She told me to buy myself a cup of coffee and they'd pay me for it, and I scoffed. I was doing this from the start to help out Derek... not for coffee.

So I took a little road trip to Monticello, wishing I had more than one building to look at while I was out there (the trip took 2 hours round trip, about 5 minutes of which was actually in the building taking pictures). The space is full of junk. literally. The guy has been using it as a storage space. So all that would have to get moved. And over all I don't think it's what they're looking for... I know if it was my movie I'd keep looking and reserve it as back up plan B. But I emailed the pictures to the producer and haven't heard anything back. So I'm taking a day off from that, I think, to work on all the other shit I have to do before going back to class monday.

Thus is film school
