I ended up not finishing my stupid edit at dinner last night
, and through some bizzare events ended up having to go back to the school at like 11 to finish and turn it in. We were supposed to watch Slumdog Millionaire (you know, the oscar winner for best picture) in Genres last night... and we've suffered through Killer of Sheep and Ganja and Hess and plenty of other unenjoyable films this semester. So I was actually looking forward to seeing Slumdog (I haven't seen it yet). And of course the projector died. It's been on it's last leg (projecting a big blue spot over the middle half of the screen lately), but yesterday it was only projecting the yellow and red tones. It was awful. By the end of Andrew's lecture it wasn't projecting anything.
As a result we got out early, but there were BFA's in the editing lab, and one on my computer. So I left, came home, ate meatballs, and went back at 11 to finish. I turned it in... it sucks... but I turned it in.
Today we had directing,
and for the last time I acted (Chris is still out of town, so I filled in). Broke Eric's heart, again. Bobby was the director, and the best quote of the day was definitely either "Chicks try to hug me all the time" or "What assholes! Who are these people?". Good times. I'm going to see if I can get copies of some of this stuff. We can't put anything we do on the internet at all (or the film school hires assassins), but I'd like to have it. Fun stuff.
I have to go back to the school an hour early,
because Geoffrey Gilmore is giving a lecture then showing us a mystery film from Sundance. Woo. Then tomorrow we get a Q & A with the director of the film. Which is pretty cool. So we'll see what we get. I'm secretly hoping for The Secret Lives of Pippa Lee, but I don't think that was even at Sundance.
Geoffrey Gilmore used to be the head dude at Sundance, but is now going over to Tribeca (if you're following, you know, the festival circuit). Reb called him the most influencial person on Independent filmmaking alive. I don't know that I'd go that far. But *Shrug*
The lame thing
is 1. we were only supposed to have class in the afternoon today, but because of this we had class in the morning and then this this afternoon. Also, we have the Q & A tomorrow on my Saturday *huffs* Okay. Q & A with director with a movie at sundance is better than anything I would have done. I'm more mad that today's shinanigans robbed me of sleeping in. 2. It's not at the film school (as we'll be screening a film, and our projector is sad). So it's at the SLC (student life center)... which is great, except I have to park at the film school and walk to the stupid SLC. Hopefully I'll be able to find it. Stupid SLC. I know where the film school is. Tomorrow's Q & A is on the sound stage which is REALLY strange. I mean... It's a sound stage. Plus our stages are always freezing. A is better; I call B the meat locker, that's how cold it is. But A can get pretty cold.
I'll recover.
Happiest of all happy news ever: We're done with classes for a month. *throws hat in air* Okay. I'm not wearing a hat. But if I was, I would toss it in the air with glee. Class is great... except for the bad ones, and the homework. And the fact that you know that half of your class is out making movies while you're sitting around listening to Paulie talk for 3 hours about nothing at all.
hip hip hooray...
