SOP #2 (Different SOP - Rough Draft)

In American culture, the shameless and tactless are amplified and revered (Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, etc). Where as, the serious, life-altering, world changing opinions and views and stories, can only be seen on C-Span, CNN or at certain times on the evening news, while you can view the “gossip” type of stories on anything imaginable. People in my generation can’t tell me what happened in Darfur, who are the main candidates running for the Presidency this upcoming election but they can tell me in great detail the goings on of Britney Spears so vividly, it’s like she is their best friend. It makes me sick to my stomach that as a society, destructibility is rewarded and positive change is pushed on to the back burner. I’m sure every society battles this but being that a lot of nations still look to the United States; I feel we set a bad example that if you are misbehaving that will bring you popularity and attention. To me, that’s not logical but most Americans are thirsty for scandal and to have brief glimpses into the lives of the unattainable instead of being grounded and focused on the reality that surrounds them.
