...you come across a wizard's severed, talking head in one member's YA fantasy novel, and the entire group goes off on a serious brain-storming tangent to debate 1) the best way the head would roll to get around (front to back over the face and stump, side to side over the ears and stump, a diagonal waggle/wobble, et cetera), 2) whether or not the head's roll would be smooth or have a hitch or hop in it, and 3) how that head would sound along the stone floor of a dungeon (heavy and dull like a melon if truly alive, hollow and marble-like if circulatory functions had ceased). And would it leave a trail?
The discussion stopped only when satisfactory conclusions were reached.
We were in the cafe at Borders, with chess players, students, moms and kiddies all around us. I'm sure we scared somebody.
