And awaaaaaaaaaaay we go!
*In 1888, the Marquis de Sade’s memory inspired the term “sadism,” meaning sexual gratification through the infliction of pain. In 1893, “masochism”-pleasure derived from being hurt or humiliated, was named in honor of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch.
*The first recorded hanging in Massachusetts (1600s) was of a teenage servant boy, Thomas Granger, for carnally abusing a mare, a cow, two goats, five sheep, two calves, and a turkey. (Good god, man!)
*In some Native American tribes, a wife could divorce her husband simply by moving her belongings from his home back to her own family’s dwelling. (Hey, hey, hey. Quick and easy, like canned biscuits.) In others, a woman had the right to leave her husband if other members of the tribe perceived him as a coward. (Well, that's a little harsh.)
*Victorians used the term “limbs” as a euphemism for legs, which were thought to be so sexually exciting to a man, even a glimpse of a table leg could excite him to a frenzy. Table skirts were invented to prevent any unnatural unions between men and furniture. (Totally believable.)
From The History of Sex, on the Discovery Channel. Fine fodder for short stories and/or character building, I say.
As you were, all.
