Because I am a fantasy writer, a fantasy reader, and a lover of all things Harryhausen, mythical beasts down through history have always been near and dear to my heart. That's why this particular list containing animals that were once considered legends, but ended up being real, caught my eye. Can you believe the giraffe is Number 7? And that one of the most famous monsters of all time, the Kraken...
...turned out to be a colossal squid?

Number 1 is a surprise, too.
I am shocked that manatees (and sea cows and seals and such) aren't included, the way they had sailors all in love and hot after "mermaids." Perhaps they would've been Number 11.
Gorillas. Hairy, giant man-beasts of terrible strength and temper, with a nasty habit of abducting and raping women! Well now, King Kong treated my girl Fay Wray with the utmost respect... although he did get a little frisky with Jessica Lange. Hm.
