If critiques were money, I'd be somewhere tropical right about now, rolling in dough. Such as it is, because my own writing and other things kept me hemmed up this month, I am scrambling to get October crits eviscerated done in time for our fiction focus meeting on Tuesday. We've got... Chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Jeff's revamped YA fantasy novel, and a short story and a horror novel prologue from Darrell. (They're good reading, so I'm not really suffering. :) I'll get the job done all right.)
Eight books (containing six issues each) of graphic novel series The Walking Dead, by Robert Kirkman of Image Comics. Amazing artwork. Great zombies. Powerful storyline. In a world suddenly ruled by the dead, the living are finally forced to learn to do just that. Live.
The snowglobe my son made for me in Kindergarten 21 years ago, when he was five--a plastic red rose inside a Gerber baby food jar. The water is still in it, and the duct tape sealing the thing is still good. Absolutely priceless.

What's in my Inbox. News, news, news.
Don't y'all have anything better to do? Message in a bottle. Let me check the calendar... yep, it's 2009, all right. (I was so stunned, I didn't even notice the eff-up in the subject line.)

What's on my desktop. Middle Bro's video of the best crashes from the annual Red Bull Soapbox Race downtown on 10th Street, last month. My favorite vehicle was the Ben "Her" chariot, hands down. (Okay, the Batmobile was cool too.)
