panthera_felis talked me into trying to cook stir-fried pasta today. Being a person who usually doesn't cook fusion or semi-fusion cuisine (pasta goes with olive oil, cream or tomatoes! Not...STIR FRY), I was a little doubtful at first. I mean hey, I can do stir-fries decently enough! Pasta decently enough too! Stir-fried pasta t-- wait.
So, tonight's menu was stir-fried pasta with beef and mixed peas and broccoli. It...isn't half bad, but could be better- maybe some chilli flakes instead of the pepper could've done the trick. Plain pasta can be awfully bland. Best part? Cooking didn't take me more than half an hour. Sure, if you're going to COUNT the time taken for the marinate to set in and all, it'll be about 1-2 hours, but hey, all I did was leave it in the fridge and chop garlic for like 2 minutes. Simple and quick- an easy way to an improvised recipe to win me over. ♥
Yesterday's quiche was also a success, though I ended up making too much filling, so I ended up...kinda pan-frying it in the frying man. Ended up with what tasted like quiche filling with the consistency of scrambled eggs (I was hoping to get a pancake-like end product, but ended up scrapping that when I heard the sound of burning dairy. Even the burnt bits were kinda nice and crispy, come to think of it). Ate that with rice, and it was actually pretty decent, if not a strange combination.
The sad thing is that I'm terrified that I'll run out of ideas one day on what to cook and end up cooking the same things over and over and over again for dinner. How boring is that?
Maybe I should go help out at Wholefoods and learn a few tricks from their kitchen section....
