[Christmas is steadily approaching. Perry always loved this holiday, but he just can't seem to get into the spirit this time. It can be partly blamed on the fact that for him, it was still summer break less than two months ago. For the most part, though, it's because Christmas is a time of family. The family that isn't here. Christmas just reminds ( Read more... )

[Moro usually minds her own business and keeps to the forest, but these days, she's patrolling the streets. So, from a fair enough distance, you may notice the particularly large wolf staring at you. Because seriously, what are you.]

[As soon as Perry notices he's being stared at, he slowly lifts his head and turns it to meet Moro's gaze. ... That is one big wolf.]

[Indeed it is. And she's curious enough to approach, villagersbedamned. And of course, she completely ignores the nervous looks they give her.

Don't mind her giving you a quick sniff.]

[Uhoh, it's coming this way. It doesn't seem to be hostile but- whoahboy it's sniffing him. Okay. He is being sniffed by an enormous wolf.

... Wait, isn't this that wolf who marked the forest as her territory and threatens the villagers?]

[That it is! But you are not a human therefore she has no reason to hate you.]

...What sort of creature are you?

[HRM.]

[He hesitates for a moment. Then he finally speaks in a low, vibrating voice.]

Platypus. [And as soon as he's said it, he closes his bill again with an uncomfortable expression. Argh, speaking is so awkward.]

[Ah, that's all she needs to know. If she didn't have such pride, she would wag her tails. Interesting... so interesting!

Instead, she simply grins.]

Then welcome. I am Moro, guardian of the forests.

[He has plenty of questions for her, but he doesn't dare voice them. Literally. Instead, he takes out his journal and scribbles in it, then holds it up for her with a questioning look.

"Can you read?"

He hopes so. Then he can switch to writing.]

[Unfortunately...]

I do not partake in human calligraphy. Such a useless skill is not needed.

[Aw maaaan. He snaps the journal shut again, looking disappointed.]

I don't enjoy speaking.

Then do not. I understand, dear child.

[She chuckles, laying herself down contently.]

I have not seen a creature such as you. Such an interesting creature.

[Don't mind her, she's just interested in getting a good look at you.]

[Normally he can get away with staying silent, but Moro is quite an influential presence in the village. He needs to communicate with her and if she can't read, he has no choice but to speak.]

Thank you. [He sits back, watching Moro just as closely as she's watching him.]

You attack humans sometimes, don't you?

[Oh, what a shift in demeanor. Her face contorts into an angry scowl.]

Yes. I have and always will slaughter those that defile the forests!

How are they defiling it?

[He knows about humans polluting and littering. That's very common in his world. It's not something he sees happening too quickly here in Luceti, though.]

Cutting the trees, burning them, leaving the land torn and barren. The humans are not so foolish, it seems, here. But I am no fool either - I know their tendency towards violence.

[Perry shakes his head. That's not how justice works, Moro.] You can't punish them until they commit a crime.
