Breast Cancer 3-Day October 2-4, 2009

Sep 15, 2008 20:57

Hi everyone! This past weekend was the 2008 Seattle Breast Cancer 3-Day, so my family came up to Seattle to cheer on my sister as she walked the last stretch of her 60-mile weekend. After careful thought and consideration, I've decided that in 2009, I will again walk against breast cancer. What finally sealed the deal was the date of the walk: October 2-4... Mom's birthday is October first, she passed away on the third. I can't think of a better way to honor her and her memory than walking for her.

Contrary to what you may think, I'm not posting this to ask for donations. I'll be doing plenty of that over the course of the next year, believe me.

I'm asking that you join me in the walk.

Walk because you believe in the cause. Walk because nothing matches the feeling of accomplishing something great. Walk because with your effort, combined with that of the thousands of others that walk beside you will change lives for the better.

Now, the hard part. Besides the physical aspect of preparing yourself to walk a total of 60 miles in the span of three days, there's the fund-raising. 2009 requires a donation of at least $2300, $100 than the last few years. Most of my donations were from co-workers, since most of my family already donated to support my sister.

Should people decide to join me, we can start training walks, set a team goal, pick a team name (the Fighting Mongooses, that's a cool team name), and the whole deal. Accomplishing something this big is a great feeling, last time I did this it was just me and my sister (I was on her team, but I raised money on my own and never did their team fundraisers as they were based out of Kitsap). I can't imagine how awesome it'd be to finish this walk with my friends - so I'm asking that my friends join me in this fight.

Let me know if anyone is interested, we have just over a year.
