I was watching a bit of Big last night. (Usually I won't watch movies on TV with commercial breaks, but a non-dramatic movie like this that I've seen multiple times is mostly okay, as long as they don't cut out any favorite parts.)
Most of the movie is pretty silly now, and there are some aspects that seem incredibly naive--things that are icky if you think about them too much (what kind of woman is this who's so attracted to a grown man who acts exactly like a 12-year-old boy? why doesn't she run away when she sees his apartment? also, the scene where Josh and his 12-year-old friend check into the seedy motel is sort of horrifying--I mean, you know what you'd think if you saw that scene on Law and Order: SVU).
But the scene where Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia dance on the giant piano--I don't know of many movie scenes that are so well done and so purely joyful. Here,
watch it now.
