Mandatory Election Post

So I have labeled myself as a "wet blanket" when it comes to discussions about the election.

8 years ago I was Very Politically involved. But then, some how, Bush got into office. After Bush (or Busch as I used to call him) was "elected" the second time, I lost pretty my all of my faith in this quasi democracy of ours. I have two central questions about today's election.
First, what is different from last last 2 elections?
-Voting machines haven't really been fixed
-Election Day is still not a National Holiday. People still have to work and go to school on Election Day (and oftentimes can't get to vote because of lack of transportation or a tight work and/or family schedule).
-What about the thousands of uncounted votes last election? What's going to prevent this from happening again?
-What about the folks who weren't able to pre register? What's the point of pre registering anyway?
-Since the very first election, there have been cases of officials being paid off.

There haven't really been any changes made to our corrupt election process because the folks who are more concerned about making the election process fair tend to be the folks who are not in charge.

Even if the majority of folks vote for Obama, it will be a Miracle if he wins.

If this miracle does happen, I will be in complete shock if he is not assassinated during his term.

But if Obama does win, my faith will be (at least somewhat) restored in US "democracy."

While Change will happen and things will be going in the 'right' direction, someone with a lot of money and power who has much to lose can only go so far to evoke change.

8 years ago I voted for Nader. I voted for him because I was expressing my 'rights' in that for some reason I felt compelled to vote for who I wanted to vote for. I have a great amount of resentment that our 'democratic' system only supports the 2 basic parties. This is not democracy. THe US has never been a democracy- so why are we lying to ourselves?

My supervisor had a great point, if so much $$ is being used to fund the way, then why doesn't everyones' paychecks include a little section that says "Mandatory War Tax" ($30.00, for example) beside the money taken out for federal and state taxes? That way we will be able to see how we are directly being effected by the endless war. And, didn't we learn anything from Vietnam?

I have been really nervous. I still believe that regardless how much Obama is winning, there will always be a way to ensure that he "loses."

D, who hopes to lose this wet blanket act soon
