Today's drum corps camp was awesome. Started out playing on mallets, but the bass drummers were absent, so the pit girl and I went and covered their bass parts. I don't think I'd ever officially played bass drum, but it's fun, and luckily I've been building up chops for it. Then I traded with one of the snare guys. But then my back started hurting and the harness was kinda small on me. So I went back to mallets. After I had pretty much memorized the piece Surfer Girl, we played it as an ensemble. Just to find out the percussion instructor accidentally made the piece in key of C, when the piece was in G. Sooooo basically, I had to forget all that learning and learn it in a new key. But the directors are pretty impressed with my skills and said they'll be writing awesome parts for me. Wooo. And the pit girl switched to a different instrument so now I can be a one-man band! BWAHAHA! I might be also playing timpani, but now I'm not sure cause the last thing I saw was people stacking marching bass drums on top of the timpani...
This is gonna be awesome.
