I was looking at my credit report today, and there was a public strike against me, apparently for some old ER bills (which I thought were settled, but....). The thing is, I never recieved a summons for any of this stuff, and when I called the district court, they put me in touch with a lawyer's office regarding the case, who said that they sent a summons "first class' to an address which was my parent's house, where I wasn't living at at the time, nor had I in years. WTF???????? Would I have a leg to stand on if I challenged the ruling on the grounds that they can't prove (and I didn't....) that I had any idea that I had to be in court? Does anybody have any experience with stuff like this?
