Oh dear!

I went this morning to the laundromat where everything is always broken. Posted on the door was a letter from the utility demanding payment of $4,900 in overdue water bills or the water would be turned off. The letter was still there when I fetched my clothes at noon, and then around three I walked past and it had finally been taken down, suggesting that some point between noon and three p.m. was the earliest any of the family that runs the place showed up at their place of business (the door unlocks automatically at opening time).

I have been going to this horrible laundromat for years, and I don't think I can cope with the prospect of dragging a basket of clothes beyond the limits of my own block. Where is the second-closest laundromat? Will I have to take my laundry on the train?

If you see me in the next couple of weeks and I am slightly stinky, it's not my fault.
