have you ever wondered whether your actions will determine something in another part of the world? Only today I came downstairs to my sitting room after having a very interesting few minutes in my bedroom with the cat, to find that my presence in the ground floor of the house was to blame for Russia conceding a goal to Spain in Euro 2004 (hey, I said an interest was football). According to my father, filled up as he was with the finest as well as cheapest whisky in Somerfields, I shouldn't have come down. I was tempted to ask why me changing postions in a place many miles from the scenes of subdued Russians that the television showed, would have caused a lapse in the Russian defence but I kept my mouth shut. I am, after all, British and thus have a soft spot for the underdog. There was always a chance that Russia could come back. Well, there was until the referee blew the final whistle and there wasn't anymore. But that is beside the point. I have noticed, especially where sport results are concerned, that superstitions and many what if questions arise. What if Russia had equilised? What if Henman had beaten the bloke he lost to? What if the Irag war had never happened? Ok so the last one was not about sport but these questions are brought up in everyday life, whether you are Colin Powell or Lassie the Wonderdog. Hell, life is unfair and there ain't nuttin we can do about that.
