Old Memories of Queenstown - Margaret Drive

Jan 25, 2009 18:58

the place i grew up in, the place that holds lots of memories for me.

went for my usual exercise regime today. the other day, i took a longer walk beyond the usual park and found myself at the back of Crescent Girls, which brought me some old memories of my Sec Sch days.

today, i decided to take a walk to the other side of the park and beyond, to my Pri Sch hangouts. while i was there, i figured i should take a few pictures of that place before they are all gone..

the top picture is the front of the building. this is where i spent several of after-school days. especially during the upper pri days and even sec sch days. those were the days where movie posters were painted, not printed! tickets were those yellow perforated kind and the auntie will use this black charcoal pencil (the kind where you dun sharpen, you just keep tearing the strip to reveal more of the pencil sort). the seating plan is just a piece of A3 paper placed at the ticket counter. No such thing as telephone booking or internet booking haha and a movie cost only $3.50!

the seats were the old creaking, red-spring-folded kind. it even used to have this stage and i rem we'll run up to it, pretend to be superstars, singing, crapping haha

then there's the Queenstown Bowl, where we used to go bowling. nope, i dont bowl, i'm just there to watch ruiyan and the others bowl and be the score keeper...cos those were the days where there's no electronic system, we had to record the scores on paper!

then there's the KFC there. where we used to go with Ms Tan, after the weekly Badminton and Volleyball sessions that we would have at the hall of our school, even though we graduated...

this is the block of flats oppo NTUC. The white blocked out area used to be this mama shop that sold biscuits in tins. it was also where we bought balloons. Ruiyan and I used to buy loads of balloons, if i recall correctly, it was like 5c each? we bought alot of it, then went to the 2nd floor open deck, blow them, then release them all tog and run after them, bursting all of it. i think we created such a ruckus there that the residents prob hated us haha

then behind this block was another row of shophouses, which i only rem the CD shop and the photo studio. i rem the photo studio was owned by a classmate's grandpa. What was the name? Pei-er? stg like that. anyway, that was e studio where we took our passport photos, the typical old type studio, with a standard background, then that "professional" camera, the kind that the photographer puts their head under the black cloth kind.

then the CD shop, that was where we ran to often to get my Andy Lau shimmering cards and posters. Ruiyan would be there to get his Vivian Chow cards haha

then from there, walked to the ex-Queenstown Community Centre

It's now the NOOCC. this is where i used to attend Kindergarden, used to attend Kids Cooking Class where i learnt how to make those cornflakes cookies, choc stuff, where i used to play badminton.

the old basketball court is no longer there, became a carpark now

then i walked pass my old pri sch, that has now been renovated and kind of looks different. the field has gone, the long jump pitch is also gone...

this is the pedestrian crossing that i used to stand at, with the BRIGHT ORANGE vest, it's part of my Prefect duty, to stand there to stop traffic for students crossing the road haha

then in the background is the church that Qiunan attends, which she attempted to bring me to several times, i have stepped in before a few times but oh well, it didnt go very far haha

the school crest has changed though, and obviously vandalised

then from there, i walked pass the old Blk 96, which is now totally torn down. then the huge patch of grass where my old house used to be

this is the BIG tree that my mum used to tell taxi drivers to drop us haha. She'll say "Tou Zeng He Lei Dua Chiu He Dao Low" (it's in hokkien, which means "drop us at the big tree ahead")

the best part is, that stretch of road actually has quite a few BIG trees, and i always found it amazing how the taxi uncles know which tree she was talking about haha

wow thats a pretty long entry for a short period of my childhood memories haha

i feel like an old woman, reminising about the past...but seriously these are like 10 over years ago alr! That's a pretty long time isnt it? seriously....and so much has happened...

Will i want to go back to those days? i dunno, maybe not, cos if i could, then these memories wouldnt have been special i suppose.

and like this line that i recall from some movie "Life's a one way journey. The bad news is you can't go back to the past, the good news is, you don't have to go through it again."

生命中的感动/感伤
