The Democracy Shuffle

Nov 04, 2008 13:50

Have exercised my civic duty. I was going to try to do it before work, since my polling place is on the way, but the number of cars spilling out from the parking lot onto the street dissuaded me. Knowing that it would be even worse after work, I decided to give it a shot at lunch. There was a line of about fifteen people ahead of me, but then I noticed the sign at the head of it marked "A-L". The sign marked "M-Z" had no one in front of it, and seeing how that's where my last name lies, I went right up to the front. I was in and out in a couple of minutes, delayed only by having to sort through the candidates for town council (select any five) and school committee (select any three).
